I got these songs from friends and family, my library, the Hennepin County Library on YouTube, and Dr.Jean (visit http://drjean.org/html/videoLinks.html).
I love how Dr. Jean explains the benefits of finger plays:
- getting them ready to read
- using oral language
- auditory memory
- developing immagination
- small motor activities
- children keep asking "again, again!"
- and it is FUN!!
Some of our other favs:
"Leo the lion is the king of the jungle, and his jaws are big and wide" (roar!)
Leo the lion is a comin' through the jungle, so you better run and hide" (roar!)
"I love Mommy, she loves me. We love Daddy, yes siree. He loves us, and so you see... we are a
happy family!" You can sub in any name.
Sing this fun shape song to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot":
"I am momma circle round as a pie. I'm baby triangle, 3 sides have I. I am papa square my sides are 4. I'm cousin rectangle shaped like a door. I am cousin oval shaped like a zero. I'm sister diamond with a sparkle and a glow. These are the shapes that you all know. Look for us whenever you go."
