The Never-Ending Laundry :)

Is this how you often feel?!  These are our oozing laundry piles and exactly one week ago everything was finally washed and put away :)  You just can never quite keep up.  Do any of you have any brilliant ideas that help you cope with the never-ending loads?  Please do share!

So many times I have said "I'm just going to start doing one load a day" and I have yet to get into that habit!  It sounds great though doesn't it?  I even built these wooden shelving units to store all the laundry baskets ... except mine still isn't painted and doesn't look that good :).  The hardest part for me is getting the clean clothes actually put away.  Good luck to us all... until some day when there actually is an end and we want those days with all our little people back!

  1. It does never end! I have 4 boys 6yo and under so I know exactly how you feel! Recently I started a system of baskets/hampers in everyones room so that I can wash, fold and pack away easily into one room rather than bits and pieces from everywhere! I don't take a basket into the laundry until I'm ready to wash it, then it goes in the dryer (or hung out in summer) brought in and folded and put away right then! Don't bring in the laundry if you don't plan on putting it away in that moment. The other thing I try to do is always do some aspect of laundry with meal times...that can mean 3 loads in a day washed and put away without too much effort - 1 load in the washing machine, the wet load to the dryer, the dryer load folded and put away and repeat - a lot - until the kids are grown up! Lol...

  2. The biggest thing that helped me conquer laundry was actually having less clothes - in other words, stopping the problem at the core. I have three boys and a newborn baby girl. When I buy clothes for the boys, each one gets 7 pants, 7 shorts, 7 shirts, 7 pyjamas, 7 socks, and 7 underwear. All this can fit in one load of laundry. And it means that I have to wash and fold it each week or they have nothing in their drawer! Bonus - my two oldest boys wear the same size, but instead of buying 14 of everything, I just have 8 of that size, which means I do their load twice a week. The more clothes you have, the more you can put off doing laundry, and the more it piles up!

  4. Oh I hear you! I have 3 kids under the age of 6 and a husband and they all seem to change 3+ times a day! UF-DAH!
I TRY my hardest to do at least 1 load a day to stay on top of it, once it comes out of the dryer I fold it right away and seperate everyone clothes into their own bin. Then the 2 oldest kids help me put it away! I also have to do this first thing in the morning or else I never seem to get to it throughout the day!

  5. I have four kids - laundry for me has always been a two to three day affair; washed, dried and put away. Outside of people being sick, I had four blissful days off. My daughter has her own hamper, but the boys all share one. When my older three were little (they are now 15, 13 and 11) the vast majority of their clothes were folded, so when I put them away I didn't have stuff to hang. I do the same now with my 3 year old.

You'd think as they got bigger there'd be less (and there'd be more help), but I think they actually produce more dirty laundry: school uniforms, sports uniforms, clothes for after school, clothes for after sports. But my same schedule applies - clothes come down on Sunday and are in their rooms by Tuesday. The only difference. . .clothes don't seem to get put away. I definitely spent less time putting the three older kids' clothes away myself when they were little than the days of nagging I do now to, "Please, please, put your clothes away. Properly!"

  6. i'm new to your blog as of a few months ago and i love it, you totally get me. I couldn't have written this post better. I still have not come to terms with the idea that housework is never done. I should probably stop getting irritated that the kitchen is a total mess after 2 days. I wish I had the self discipline to wash AND put away all the laundry every day but.... Pu- leez! Someday I will figure out how to be the domestic goddess of my dreams, until then let's just keep laughing at ourselves and hope our families forget our short comings and notice our talents instead!
